Renewing your vows

When you have been married a while your wedding day can become a distant, youthful memory, lost in the mayhem of day to day life. It is not surprising then, that many people want to relive the magic and excitement of their big day, and there are many different reasons as to why you might want to do it.  Maybe it is something you would like to do every five years a little sort of MOT, or perhaps there has been illness and this is your way of committing to your new future, or maybe like me you have been married for a long time and you want to honour each other,  and there is no better way to recommit to your partner than to renew your vows.  To show everyone how thankful you are for each other and the life you have.

In some ways renewing your vows is even better than when you got married,  you can be so nervous on your wedding day that you can miss out on some of the details, it is all about getting it perfect, perfect hair, perfect dress, perfect table decorations!  This time round you are really relaxed and confident in each other.  you know you made a good decision getting married and you are happy to share that news.   Renewing your vows is like being awarded a medal for running a marathon and inviting everyone to the party.  Getting married is easy, staying married is harder and well done you you’ve done it!

This is a  special celebration that enables you to take time out of your busy lives to shine a light of love on each other, to say thank you, to say sorry, to say  “I still do” and  better still “let’s do it some more!”

You don’t need any sort of licence to renew your vows and there is no set, specific way to do it.  So you can have a formal ceremony like a wedding ceremony with loads of guests, or you might choose to have a small family gathering in the garden, honestly pretty much anywhere. There are lots of opportunities to include special people who have had a part in your successful marriage, special friends, family members your children even your pet.
